Mechanical Estimator – ICI Retrofit

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our team. In this role, you will lead the bidding and cost-estimation process for complex Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) mechanical retrofit projects. You will be responsible for pricing core HVAC infrastructure upgrades (chillers, boilers, AHUs) as well as managing the associated civil and architectural support scopes (concrete housekeeping pads, coring, excavation, and drywall restoration).

Responsibilities

• Takeoffs & Costing: Perform accurate digital quantity takeoffs for mechanical systems, piping, ductwork, and equipment.
• Scope Integration: Scope out and price supporting civil and finishing works, including concrete housekeeping pads, core drilling, trench excavation, and drywall patch-backs.
• Subcontractor Management: Solicit, review, and negotiate quotes from specialty sub-trades (e.g., coring contractors, drywallers, excavators) to ensure complete scope coverage.
• Site Walkthroughs: Attend mandatory pre-bid site visits to assess logistical constraints, rigging requirements, and structural factors unique to live-building retrofits.
• Proposal Preparation: Compile and submit comprehensive, competitive closing tender packages and change-order pricing.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 3–5+ years of experience estimating mechanical or HVAC projects, specifically focusing on live-building retrofits and equipment replacements.
• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of chillers, boilers, air handling units, hydronic piping, and building automation systems.
• Civil/Architectural Literacy: Ability to interpret structural and architectural drawings to properly scope out support works (concrete, coring, framing/drywall).
• Software: Proficiency in mechanical estimating software (Microsoft Excel) and digital takeoff tools (Bluebeam).
• Education: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related trade background.
